Oh! Right. There’s a site called iPhone Photography School, and they’ve offered up a helpful cheat sheet for taking better pictures.

They say that the best app to use is the native iPhone app for taking pictures. You can load it up from the lock screen to make that magic moment happen even faster.

The list also suggests getting down on the child’s level to get the best shots. See the world from their perspective. But because that’s often a fast-paced world, use the burst mode for capturing those speedy rascals.

One clever tip that’ll make you sound like a professional photographer is to focus on the eyes while taking a portrait photo of your child. This will give the viewers a more engaging photo.

Taking shots from alternate angles, using black and white photo settings, and having fun with the experience will make this fall the best time to take photos. The weather is cooling off, and it’s time to get back outside and snap some pics!

With Memorial Day Weekend behind us, summer has unofficially begun! Pools are opening, school years are wrapping up, and your preschooler or toddler is probably anxious to get outside or take a dip in the pool. Summer is one of the easiest times of year to encourage your child to be active because there is so much FUN to be had outdoors! But what about protecting your children from the sun’s UV rays while they make the most of the dog days of summer?

Keeping your children inside all summer is not the best option because there are great benefits to spending time outdoors. The extra vitamin D3 absorbed from the sunshine and the extra exercise from playing outdoors always lends to healthier hearts and lungs.

To keep your family from getting burned this summer, we’ve put together some helpful tips:

    1. If you plan to be in the sun for a long period of time such as at a park or an outdoor birthday party, always wear light clothing you can use to cover your skin as well as sunscreen.

Tip: Take a look at the ingredients and chemicals used in your sunscreen. Some types contain chemicals that are potentially harmful while other sunscreens (marketed as non-mineral) use zinc oxide and/or titanium oxide. Zinc or Titanium oxide are more natural elements that do not dissolve in the sun, are not usually absorbed in your skin and are often more effective at blocking harmful UV rays.

    2. Snack healthy! While spending time in the sun it’s important to snack on foods that are high in anti-oxidants such as cranberries, walnuts, blueberries and pecans. Leave the chips at home and grab that trail mix the next time you go to the park.

    3. Be aware of how long you and your child have been in the sun. Children are far too busy having a great time to even think about how long their skin has been exposed to the sun. Break up the play with some shaded activities and keep re-applying sunscreen when it’s been sweated off by your active toddler or preschooler!

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Fall Creek, your child’s safety is our number one concern. That’s why whenever we take our children outside to play on one of our playgrounds, we take the appropriate measures to protect them from the hot Texas sun. We love connecting with parents and working together to bring the best experience for every child. If you have any questions, please contact us – we would love for you to join our Kids ‘R’ Kids family, today!

bigstock-Mother-with-her--years-old-ki-73846084.jpgIt's crucial for parents to maintain good communication with their children. One of the best ways to develop a close relationship with open communication is through talking to each other in a non-threatening environment. When you start communicating early, talking becomes natural and easier as the child matures. A Mommy and Daughter Day Out is a great way for a mother to enjoy her daughter while creating a habit of spending time together and encouraging open communication.

Mommy and Daughter Day Out should be fun for mother and daughter. Plan your day based on what your child enjoys. It may be as simple as going for a bike ride, to the play ground, or enjoying an ice cream cone. Whatever you decide, make sure there is an opportunity for communication and personal interaction. Talk on her level and about her interests. Ask questions that encourage her to think about her feelings and preferences. For example, “Tell me your favorite part of that movie. Why do you like that part?” Remember to laugh, play, and have fun.

One goal of the date is to spend quality time with your daughter. An additional goal is to intentionally build a relationship that is close enough for your daughter to feel comfortable sharing her heart with you as she gets older and experiences more complicated issues. Start now discussing her thoughts about toys, nap time, and any other interests that she may have. Let your mommy and daughter day out pave the way to a great relationship, now and in the future for you and your daughter.

Do any of these options sound fun to you and your daughter? You know what you enjoy most so make it a day you’ll both remember and want to repeat!

    1.Get a manicure

2.Have a tea party in your living room – perhaps invite some favorite stuffed animals?

3.Go to an outdoor park - If your daughter loves sports or exercise this is a great way to release some energy together!

4.Go to a movie and then get ice cream afterwards to discuss the movie.

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Fall Creek we love watching our students’ relationships with their parents’ flourish. We are passionate about connecting the lessons learned at our childcare or preschool facility with the everyday life the students live at home. This is why we have strategic partnerships with other early educational experts such as ABCMouse.com! Before the weather gets unbearably hot (as we know it will in the TX summer) get outside with your toddler or preschooler and go on a fun family picnic! While the idea of having small children in wide open spaces may sound too exhausting, you can eliminate some of the stress with good planning. Anytime you leave the house with your kiddos, a great rule of thumb is to keep the outing as simple as possible. Cramming too many activities into one afternoon can lead to grumpy children and an exhausted mom.

    1. Location, Location, Location – When deciding where to picnic start by doing it at a familiar place. You could even start in your own backyard or at a friend’s house. Being familiar with your surroundings will give you peace of mind to be able to enjoy yourself. Once your kids are older or whenever you are more comfortable, venture out to a local park or zoo for your picnic festivities.

    2. Bring a Friend – Children almost always do better when they have friends to play with. Even introverted children appreciate the company of another child to play with outside. Being outside is the perfect place to spark imagination so having a friend explore with your child makes it even more fun! Plus, having another adult to watch the kiddos means you will have a chance to talk to a grown-up and have another set of eyes looking out for your child as you look after theirs.

An Easter Egg Hunt can be a fun event for the whole family, but did you know it can also be an educational opportunity for your child? Here are six creative ways your child can learn through an egg hunt:

    1.Toddlers Can Learn Colors

Before letting your toddler loose to find as many plastic eggs as possible, tell your toddler only to collect a specific color or colors of eggs. This will help your toddler distinguish between different colors and make the game more challenging!

    2.Toddlers Can Learn Shapes

If you’re creating your own egg hunt, fill plastic eggs with different shaped objects. After the eggs are all found, reward your child for naming each of the shapes found in his or her eggs.

    3.Preschoolers Can Learn Numbers

If you’re creating your own egg hunt, use a permanent marker to number the plastic eggs before hiding them. Challenge your children to find the eggs in order from 1 to 20, or 1 to 100 if you’re that ambitious!

Instead of responding by saying “You’ll do it because I said so” or “Don’t ever talk to me like that!” there are other ways to help your child learn to disagree with you respectfully. The best way to stop back talk is to provide your child with some independence – but within your own limits. Kids of all ages need a sense of personal power to make their own choices and express their differences in opinions with parents. When parents make all the decisions for them, children naturally want to lash out, and so they do — with words and sometimes, physical aggression.

So how can parents teach their children to disagree respectfully? Read the full article here: How to Stop Back Talking Without "Because I Said So"

Easter is right around the corner and you may have already paid a visit to the fluffy Easter Bunny but you probably don’t know some fun facts about the Easter Bunny! With a preschooler or toddler at home, the opportunities to learn are never-ending and that includes celebrating different holidays and learning about fun characters!

So if you are planning on going to a neighborhood Easter Egg hunt or you run into the Easter Bunny, you can teach your child and wow your friends with some Easter bunny trivia – and you can learn something in the process!

Start by talking to your child about bunnies – what are the differences between hares and rabbits? Which one is the Easter Bunny? The Easter Bunny is a hare, so it’s not accurate to refer to him as the Easter Rabbit. He won’t take it personally but now you know better. Hares are typically faster than rabbits, they have longer ears and bigger feet and they live above ground rather than in holes or caves like rabbits. You can turn this fun fact into a visit to a local pet store that carries rabbits and let your preschooler feel it’s soft fur and long ears – just make sure you don’t bring one home if you aren’t ready for a pet!

Does the Easter Bunny have other names? Santa Claus goes by Kris Kringle and Saint Nick, what about the Easter Bunny? Well. The Easter Bunny has a personal name but chooses to keep that information secret for privacy reasons, which we totally understand. If you want to have fun with making silly names for the Easter Bunny visit easterbunnyname.com and see what you come up with! This is a great way to grow your child’s vocabulary, too with all of the fun and silly words you can use to create a unique name! What’ll it be for you – Bouncy Rascal? Fluffy Jellybean?

With the colder winter months comes the dreaded season of runny noses and upset tummies. Flu season is understandably a very unpopular time of year, especially for parents with young infants or toddlers at home. Thankfully, there are practical ways you can help prevent the flu from spreading in your own home.

The first way you can help protect your family from the flu is by teaching your children how to cover their mouth when coughing or sneezing. This is a skill that many young children may not be able to do as well so be patient when they don’t always remember. Making an activity or habit fun can help a toddler or preschooler remember so try turning it into a game of “catching as many germs in your elbow” as you can. It may seem silly but if silly means sanitary – it’s worth it!

Next, teach your children how to properly wash their hands – warm water and soap are the best combination to eliminate bad bacteria. If you’re out and about with no access to soap and water, be sure to always have some hand sanitizer with you. The best way to teach your children any skill is to demonstrate the skill yourself. Young toddlers and preschoolers are always taking cues from the adults around them.

Lastly, if you or your child happen to get sick, please do not leave your home. It can be frustrating to manage a sick child at home, but the best way to prevent a virus from spreading is to keep it contained. One sick child in a classroom directly impacts the other children and adults he/she comes into contact with.

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Fall Creek, the safety of every child in our care is our top priority. In addition to our state-of-the-art and secure facility we utilize tools such as the ZONO sanitizing machine. At the end of every day all of the furniture and toys that were used are placed inside of the machine, disinfecting them and making them safe for another great day of fun and learning. Many studies of young children have shown a link between excellent academic performance and exposure to music. Children excel in the areas of reading and math when music is a natural part of their lives. Even as an infant, participating in and observing musical activities can positively influence your child. For many babies, singing is an effective way to bond with parents and also encourages verbal skills to develop.

Toddlers and preschoolers naturally enjoy music since it gives them a way to play and learn. You may have a child at home who has a favorite song and always wants to sing it or listen to it. While this behavior may make you want to pull your hair out, take heart! This is actually a great indicator that your child is establishing important neural connections as they sing and learn music.

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Fall Creek, our Whiz Kids music program gives children the opportunity to play instruments, engage in singing exercises, as well as compose their very own musical masterpieces. We understand the unique advantage music gives children, especially at an early age. In addition to our music program, we offer fitness classes, foreign languages, and more for your child. We understand that learning often happens outside of the traditional classroom. With our extracurricular activities, your child has a chance to excel in learning new skills while building self-confidence!

Kids ‘R’ Kids of Fall Creek has the right program to engage young minds and strengthen the cognitive and social skills of every child. Contact us today to schedule a tour and learn more about all of our extracurricular programs that give each child a chance to grow and develop new skills.

Resized-Christmas-Miracle-Gift.jpgThe excitement of Christmas in the air is contagious! As children dream of presents under the tree and write letters to Santa (convincing him that they were simply angelic this year) Christmas provides a unique opportunity for parents to teach their children about giving and generosity.

Opening up a child’s heart (and piggy bank!) to the needs of others is an important part of teaching children how to be gracious, generous, and selfless individuals. Our society is becoming increasingly focused on self and it’s important for parents to take the time to teach about the power of giving and the impact their child can have on the world around them.

Here are some helpful ways to introduce and implement the idea of giving to your child:

Explain what you already give as a family and why – Children are often watching parents for cues on how to interact with the world around them. If you demonstrate a generous spirit, your children will be more interested in continuing that legacy of giving. Be sure to explain to them why you chose to give to the different organizations so they can see the personal element to giving and keep it from feeling obligatory.

Let them choose their charity/cause – Your child probably has different interests than you and it’s very likely that you can find a charity that connects with your child on a personal level. For example, if your child loves to play soccer he may be interested in an organization called charityball that makes it possible for lower-income kids around the world to have their own soccer ball.

Give from their own pocket – Obviously, a young child won’t have the same giving capacity as adults with full-time jobs, and that’s ok! If they don’t usually receive an allowance, encourage them to do chores around the house to raise money and give. This gives the child more ownership of giving, taking it from principle to practice.

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Fall Creek we are passionate about teaching children key principles of character such as generosity, respect, teamwork, and fair play. Contact us today to learn more about our accredited and exclusive curriculum!
